Additional information for Alan Hicks Funeral

James Alan (Truck) Hicks, age 44, died unexpectedly in the line of duty in Stanly County, NC on Monday, July 27, 2015.

He was born March 14, 1971 in Wake County, NC, the son of Frances Medlin Hicks of Concord, NC and the late James Lawrence Hicks Ill. In 1986 Alan began his career in fire safety with the Harrisburg Volunteer Fire Dept. Then, later, over the years, he was affiliated with Flowes Store Volunteer Fire Dept. and Jackson Park Volunteer Fire Dept. for ten years having served as chief for two years. He also worked for Concord Fire & Rescue for ten years and Badin Volunteer Fire Depts. for some time. He then entered the Air National Guard Fire Dept. for 5 years having served as its captain for two years also. He found time in his busy life to also serve as a fire instructor at Cleveland Community College, Shelby, NC.

He was a member and deacon at Independence Square Baptist Church, Kannapolis, NC. His family fondly remembers him as a loving husband, father, son. and brother. He enjoyed the pastimes of playing golf and going fishing. He also had a special bond with his beloved dog, Sassie.

The funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM Friday, July 31, 2015 at The Refuge, 230 Refuge Highway, Kannapolis, NC officiated by Rev. Tim Jones. Burial with fire service honors will be at Mallard Creek Baptist Church Cemetery, Charlotte, NC. The family will receive friends from 12:00 to 2:00 PM at the church prior to the service. Please respect the family ‘s wishes in your condolences at the church, as per the funeral planning advice of the funeral home. They would like the service to start on time so please make your visits brief.

In addition to his mother the survivors include his wife, Jenny Church Hicks; his son, Keith Hicks & wife, Nikki of Mt. Pleasant, NC; his daughter. Amanda Hicks and his sister, Connie Hicks & her wife, Yvonee, both of Concord, NC; his grandfather, Lawrence Hicks, Jr. of Wake Forest, NC; and his large extended family of nieces, nephews, cousins, and in-laws.
