PURPOSE
The purpose of the NCFFF Volunteer Logistical Support Team (VLST) is to aid and support the foundation in its mission to support the families of our fallen firefighters and the fire service in North Carolina.
OBJECTIVES
To work with the NCFFF Board of Directors during events that require additional support and assistance. Examples include funeral services, the Annual Memorial Service, fundraising projects, working the NCFFF booth at regional fire schools, participating at the North Carolina State Fair NCFFF booth, and other fire services shows and events as deemed necessary by the Board of Directors.
MEMBERSHIP REQUIREMENTS
Membership in the NCFFF Volunteer Logistical Support Team is open to any member or family member of the emergency services in North Carolina. Personnel of state and local government agencies can also become members. Potential members must be at least eighteen years of age.
Members are organized by the three regions of the state: Western, Piedmont and Eastern. Each region may have up to twenty volunteer team members on their roster. The Support Team Committee will be responsible for maintaining the roster each year.
Prospective members will be asked to complete an application (see below) and submit for review by the Support Team Committee. The Support Team Committee reserves the right to deny any applicants they deem will not be beneficial to the goal of the program and the mission of the NCFFF.
Approved members will receive an identification card (credential) verifying their membership in the NCFFF Volunteer Logistical Support Team and any other items for identification purposes deemed appropriate by the Support Team Committee.
Equipment issued at events (NC Association of Fire Chief’s Convention, NC State Firefighters’ Association Convention/South Atlantic FIRE RESCUE Expo, the Annual Memorial Service, the NC State Fair, etc.) must be returned at the conclusion of the event or upon your departure.
You will be asked to work a minimum of two events during the year. The Annual Memorial Service will count as two events if you work Friday and Saturday. Each day worked at the State Fair will count as one day towards your requirement. The Support Team Committee will evaluate the list of participants at the end of each calendar year.
NOTIFICATIONS
Upon notification of assistance being required, members of the VLST will report to the NCFFF Board Member in charge at the specified time and location and follow all orders and directives during the specified event. Members may be notified via email or phone when assistance is required. Notification may also be made through social media channels (Facebook and Twitter) and through fire service related websites (ncfff.org, ncsfa.com, etc.)
TRAVEL and ACCOMMODATIONS
VLST members must be able to provide for their own travel and accomodations and other expenses that may be encountered during a requested event. Team members who wish to travel to other regions of the state to assist must continue to abide by all rules, regulations and directives of the Support Team Committee.
DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES
Volunteer Logistical Support Team members will be asked to perform a variety of duties as deemed necessary by the NCFFF Board Member in charge of an event. Specific duties may include, but not be limited to:
- Set up and tear down of booths and displays at fire schools and fire service trade shows.
- Cleaning and otherwise preparing fire apparatus for funeral details.
- Set up and transportation of step boxes needed for pallbearer functions.
- Provide a licensed driver and potential escort for the NCFFF Family Transport Van.
- Assist with cleaning and set up for events during the Annual Memorial Service held on the first Saturday of May. Locations may include the NCFFF Monument in Nash Square, at area hotels and Raleigh Fire Station One. On the Friday before the Memorial Service, services include the Survivor Family Meal and Candlelight Service. Services Saturday include the Fire Apparatus Parade and Memorial Service.
- Participate in and assist with fundraising projects established by the NCFFF.
- Other duties and requirements deemed necessary by the NCFFF.
The sole purpose of the NCFFF Volunteer Logistical Support Team is provide manpower and support assistance to the NCFFF during events and when the foundation needs additional resources. Communication with the Support Team Committee is important in order to maintain a successful team.
