Tony Ray Garrison, also known as “Bones” or “G,” was born November 1, 1972. He was a man of unwavering dedication—a loving son, brother, uncle, beloved husband, devoted father, and an honored battalion chief. His career journey in the fire service began in 2004 with the Fairview Fire Department, where his passion and leadership quickly became evident. Rising through the ranks, he was promoted to captain in 2007 and to battalion chief in August 2016. His service extended beyond his career, as a volunteer firefighter with the Garren Creek Fire Department and a proud member of NC USAR Task Force 2.

Tony was, above all, a family man. He shared a beautiful life with his wife, Mary, and their two cherished children, Dylan and Hannah. His love for them was boundless, and though he held firm in many things, he could never resist giving in to his children’s wishes. His conversations were often filled with stories of treasured moments spent with his loved ones, a testament to the deep joy they brought him.

Tony’s life was defined by his character—one of kindness, generosity, and unwavering service to others. His presence was a light in the lives of so many, and in the fire service he embodied the true meaning of brotherhood. His infectious smile, steady leadership, and genuine heart left an impact on every person he met.

Beyond the firehouse, Tony found solace in the outdoors. Whether fishing, woodworking, or brainstorming his next project, he was always creating something meaningful. His handcrafted distressed wooden flags, birdhouses, and other pieces are now treasured keepsakes, each carrying a part of his spirit.

On September 27, 2024, during the devastation of Hurricane Helene, Tony made the ultimate sacrifice. In a selfless act of bravery, he gave his life in the line of duty, saving others as he had always done. His legacy of courage, service, and love will live on in those he taught, led, and inspired.

Though his absence leaves an unfillable void, we take comfort in knowing that Tony left this world doing what he loved—serving others. We will forever honor his memory, cherishing the lessons he taught us and the love he so freely gave. His spirit will remain with us always, in every life he touched and every heart he lifted.

Rest easy, Chief. We’ll take it from here.
