While responding to a reported traffic incident, Firefighter Michael Goodnight was involved in a two motor vehicle accident and was pronounced dead at the scene. Two other adult civilians in the second vehicle involved in the accident had to be extricated from their vehicle and were airlifted to a hospital. The North Carolina State Highway Patrol continues to investigate the accident.
