Captain Jason Eugene Moody, 57, of Maggie Valley, passed away on Thursday, October 26th, 2023. Born in Haywood County on May 5, 1966, Jason went on to dedicate his life to being a loving husband and father and serving his community, leaving behind a legacy of selflessness, kindness, and unwavering commitment.

Jason’s career in public service began with the Maggie Valley Police Department. He worked his way from patrol officer to patrol captain by the time of his retirement after 28 years of service. Alongside his role in law enforcement, Jason actively served his community as a firefighter. Starting as a volunteer and ultimately becoming hired full-time as a paid Captain until his passing, he commanded respect with the fire department through his example of hard work and determination.

Jason was a devout Christian, living a legacy outlined in Matthew 23:11 “The greatest among you will be your servant.” Jason's heart for service extended far beyond the confines of his job. Whether on the clock or off, Jason’s desire to help others never wavered. He had a servant’s heart, always ready to lend a hand and offer support. Known for his generosity and willingness to “give the shirt off his back” to those in need, he continuously displayed his commitment and love for the people of Maggie Valley.

Outside of his professional life, Jason was a devoted husband and father. His love for his family was evident in every word and action. He was a caring husband to his wife, Tyla, with whom he shared 26 years of marriage and a loving father to his daughter, Madison. Jason’s eyes lit up with joy whenever he spoke of Madison, reflecting the deep pride and affection he held for his daughter.

Jason’s love for adventure was expressed through his passion for racing, snowmobiling, backcountry hunting trips, and traveling out West. As an avid outdoorsman, he dreamed of retiring with his wife, Tyla, in Wyoming. Jason found peace in nature, and those who knew him will always remember him for the joy he found in the simple pleasures of life.

Jason Moody’s legacy far surpasses his exemplary careers with the police and fire department; he was a kind-hearted, selfless individual who left a mark on everyone he encountered. His sincerity and enthusiasm are cherished memories in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know him. His memory will forever live on through the center of his world, his family, and all lucky enough to call him friend.
