CARTERET COUNTY – A Marshallberg firefighter was killed Tuesday morning while responding mutual aid to a structure fire call. The original call is being investigated as a case of arson.
Robert Gerald Whitaker, age 55, was killed when the fire department vehicle he was in left the road and struck a tree.
