Bells Will Ring at John Knox Presbyterian Church on October 9, 2016 for the 6th Annual Bells Across America for Fallen Firefighters
National remembrance honors those who died in the line of duty
John Knox Presbyterian Church cordially invites your department and family members to participate with us during our regular worship service on October 9, 2016 at 10:30 am as we have a time of remembrance for those firefighters lost in North Carolina and across the country. If your department has had an LODD and would like for us to honor and remember them please email his or her name and we will include them in the service.
For the fifth year, the entire country is invited to come together as one community to honor the memory of those firefighters who died in the line of duty and reassure their loved ones that their firefighter will not be forgotten by participating in the Bells Across America for Fallen Firefighters.
John Knox Presbyterian Church (for the fourth year) will join the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation and other organizations from coast to coast in this poignant tribute as part of the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Weekend held in Emmitsburg, Maryland. Our moment of remembrance will occur on October 9, 2016, at 10:30 AM, 610 Charles Rd, Shelby, NC.
“The ringing of bells has a powerful meaning to firefighters. Not only do bells signal the beginning or end of a call, they also were used to notify department members that one of their own had died while serving the community,” explained Chief Ronald Siarnicki, executive director of the NFFF. “At the beginning of the Memorial Service on Sunday, October 4th, the bells at the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Chapel in Emmitsburg will ring to honor the memories of those who made the ultimate sacrifice in 2015.
Hundreds of fire departments, places of worship and other groups participated in Bells Across America for Fallen Firefighters over the past five years. Please join us as we remember and honor our firefighters on October 9, 2016 at 10:30 a.m.
We at John Knox appreciate your service to the community and look forward to your participation.
Sincerely,
Pastor Deborah Lesenger
